Voting: What You Need to Know Now Until Election Day

The last day to vote early is Saturday, Oct. 31, at 5 p.m. There are 14 locations where you can cast your ballot on weekdays and 15 sites on Saturday.

On weekdays, you can vote from 1 to 7 p.m. at every location except at the “main” government center. The Fairfax County Government Center offers longer hours from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

On Saturday, every early voting site is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Be aware that if you’re planning to vote on Oct. 31, we are anticipating a large turnout on this last day for early voting.

Return your mail-in ballot now. You have two options: by mail or in a drop-off box.

If you are mailing back your ballot, it must be postmarked by Nov. 3, but it may be received by the Office of Elections as late as noon on Friday, Nov. 6.

Or you can put it in a ballot drop-off box. A box is provided at every early voting site during the hours they’re open; the last day to use a drop-off box at any early voting site is Oct. 31, at 5 p.m. Ballot drop-off boxes also will be offered at every polling place on Election Day, Nov. 3.

However, there is also a secure, 24-hour box at the Fairfax County Government Center that will be available until 7 p.m. on Election Day.

You can use any drop box at any location, including on Election Day.

When using a drop-off box, help us process your ballot faster. Please put your completed “B” envelope inside your return mailing envelope—even though you’re not mailing it back. Be sure to follow these instructions on filling out your “B” envelope.

Note that if you put your ballot in a drop-off box, Ballot Scout will not indicate if it has been received. You should use the state portal instead which is the most reliable method to track your ballot.
