Jayson Tatum delivers, and more observations from a Celtics opening night victory

If the Celtics are to take another step toward title contention this season, it is clear Jayson Tatum will have to be the one who leads them there. On Wednesday night, the reigning defensive player of the year in his face, with time ticking down, and with Boston trailing by a point, the All-Star added to his ever-growing portfolio.

With a slice of luck.

Tatum took several calm crossover dribbles beyond the left arc before sending a 3-pointer over the outstretched arm of Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, off the glass and through the net with 0.4 seconds left, ultimately giving the Celtics a 122-121 season-opening win at a mostly empty TD Garden.
