Goodyear Cotton Bowl: Score predictions for Oklahoma-Florida

It’s still on.Florida is down a ton of players, including starters on defense and the Gators four-best pass catchers. Oklahoma is relatively healthy and have plenty available for this game outside of Jadon Haselwood and starting corner Tre Brown. The game is still being played at 7 p.m. CT at the Cotton Bowl inside AT&T stadium.Okkahoma won the Big 12 Championship and went 8-2 on the season. Florida went 8-3, suffering losses to Texas A&M, LSU and in the SEC Championship to Alabama. It will be the battle of styles: Oklahoma’s defense against Florida’s offense. Oh yes, it’s switched. The Sooners’ defense is No. 18 in SP+ and has one of the best pass rushes in college football. Led by Kyle Trask, the Gators have one of college football’s best passing offenses.Hete are score predictions from the Sooners Wire staff for Oklahoma and Florida.Josh CallawayThis matchup is really interesting on paper, but it is impossible not to fixate on what Florida is going to be missing in this game in terms of their receiving corps. No Kyle Pitts was big enough, then more guys just kept stacking up as this week went on.Pair the stripped down Gator offense with the fact that their defense is…not good, and it seems like Oklahoma absolutely should win this game. It would be a big missed opportunity for Lincoln Riley not to at this point. It is the third-best team in the SEC without several offensive playmakers, the Sooners have to get this done and I believe they will. Spencer Rattler will have another solid performance, and Rhamondre Stevenson has himself a nice night as well.I think it follows a similar script to the Big 12 Championship Game: offense jumps out to early lead, then slows down a bit in second half, but the defense will play well and hang on to the lead.Oklahoma 38, Florida 27Steven PlaisanceThe Sooners come into this game looking to build some momentum moving into a 2021 season with major expectations. A statement win over one of the nation’s best offenses would have done just that, but that possibility is simply off the table with the Gators’ top-four receivers absent for the game.Instead, the Sooners will almost be looking to save face with a comfortable win over a depleted Florida team. While nobody in the program should feel shameful about a one-possession win on Wednesday, Sooner Nation likely won’t be satisfied with a close victory.Regardless, it doesn’t seem likely that the offensive product that Florida is putting out on Wednesday is going to manage to stay competitive against an Oklahoma defense that’s been on a war-path for much of the year.Oklahoma 35, Florida 21Kegan ReneauI liked Oklahoma after Kyle Pitts opted-out. I like them a lot now. This is a pick your score game for Oklahoma’s offense. This defense is bad from Florida. The middle of the field is open and often. It’s time for Spencer Rattler to have a big game.A depleted Florida offense is not good for this pass rush from Oklahoma. The offensive line isn’t great and neither is the run game.Oklahoma 52 Florida 27
