KARACHI: Administrator Karachi Murtaza Wahab said on Monday that the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) will now provide relief to the citizens by eliminating the traditional method of garbage collection by using modern methods and technology.

Wahab said this while addressing the inaugural function of door-to-door garbage collection in 31 union councils of Karachi’s District East under the auspices of a Chinese company.

He said that the elimination of garbage bins will be ensured and sanitary staff will pick up garbage from every house. He said that SSWMB is going to start operation in Korangi district by the end of this month.
While paying tribute to the efforts of Chinese company Changi Kanji and the sanitary staff, he further added that the sanitation situation was getting much better. The services of sanitary workers in the city is unparalleled, he said, adding that the Sindh cabinet has approved a policy to generate electricity from waste.

“This is a gift to the citizens of Karachi,” said Wahab.

MD Sindh Solid Waste Management Board, Zubair Ahmad Channa said that now we have moved on to the next stage in which garbage will be taken from the house. In order to collect garbage from house-to-house, the Chinese company has set up more than 200 people to pick up garbage from the house.

MD Zubair Channa also paid tribute to the employees and said that I have always said that sanitary workers are the backbone of the organisation.

“You do the hardest job of cleaning the city and we will continue it with your help,” he concluded.
