KARACHI: Police have recovered Nazim Jokhio’s clothes and a cellphone from a well near the Jam House in Karachi’s Malir Memon Goth area.
Investigation officials on Sunday relayed the clothes and mobile phone were recovered on identification of the suspects arrested in Nazim Jokhio murder case. The suspects had confessed to throwing the mobile phone in the old and dry well, said police sources.
The police officials said the suspects had tried to set the victim’s belongings on fire after throwing them in the well. They said the mobile phone was largely burnt and the phone and clothes were sent to the Punjab Forensic Laboratory for forensic audit.
They said further development in the investigation would take place after receiving the forensic report.
Five people including Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MPA Awais Jam and his two servants are under police custody in the Nazim Jokhio murder case.
On November 7, two suspects arrested in the murder case of Nazim Jokhio had confessed to killing the victim in Memon Goth.
Investigation sources had quoted the suspects, Mir Ali and Haider, as saying that Nazim Jokhio was beaten with sticks to death, while he was trying to escape from the Jam House in Malir.
On November 4, police had registered a case against Jam Awais and his aides for allegedly torturing Nazim Jokhio to death.
According to the police, Nazim Jokhio was killed for stopping a group of foreigners from illegally hunting Houbara bustard in the area and making their video as evidence.
Medico-legal officer Dr Areeb, who conducted Nazim’s post-mortem, had confirmed that the victim was subjected to brutal torture. He had said, “From head to toe, there was no part of his body without a mark of torture.”
Whereas, Jam Awais, who had surrendered himself to police, had claimed that he was not present in Memon Goth at the time of the murder.
