ISLAMABAD: Pakistan stressed for continued constructive engagement of the international community in Afghanistan to avert any humanitarian crisis.

In his weekly media briefing on Friday, Foreign Office Spokesperson Asim Iftikhar said that Pakistan was working closely with the regional countries and members of the international community for achieving lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan.

“We have been calling on the international community to stay engaged with all relevant parties and to respond to the current situation in a careful and calibrated manner,” he added.

“During talks with Afghan delegation, we expressed our commitment to peace, stability and progress in Afghanistan,” said Iftikhar.

He said that Pakistan also discussed strengthening bilateral and transit trade regimes and facilitating the movement of people by land and air.

“Pakistan offered technical assistance in health and education,” the spokesperson continued.

The FO also commended the performance of the Pakistan cricket team in the T20 World Cup and said that while being unlucky in the semi-final, the Pakistani team earned praise and won the hearts of Pakistanis and cricket lovers around the world for their humility, skill and sportsman spirit.

Iftikhar also congratulated the Australian team over their win in the semi-final.

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday also assured Afghanistan’s interim Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi that Islamabad in the “current context” would “favourably consider” its Afghan brothers “request” to transport wheat offered by India via Pakistan.

“Prime minister conveyed that in the current context Pakistan would favourably consider the request by Afghan brothers for transportation of wheat offered by India through Pakistan on exceptional basis for humanitarian purposes and as per modalities to be worked out,” the premier’s office had said in a series of tweets.
