Knowing how to respond to a fire and understanding fire safety procedures is essential for everyone, regardless of their specific role. We all have a responsibility to prevent fires, be aware of evacuation routes and act safely in an emergency. This course is suitable for all employees who do not hold any additional fire safety responsibilities in their workplace. If you do hold additional fire safety responsibilities, you will need to take training that provides specific information relevant to your role, such as our Fire Marshal Training course.

This online course equips you with the knowledge and skills to support fire safety in your workplace by recognising and responding to fire hazards. Through this training, you’ll learn about the roles and responsibilities for fire safety in the workplace, fire prevention measures, how fires start and what you should do in an emergency.

Why take this course?

Fires devastate businesses of all sizes across Britain every year. They cause damage to property, injure employees through smoke inhalation and burns, and in worst case scenarios can lead to fatalities. Everyone has a responsibility for fire safety, as a fire can occur at any time, in any place.

This Fire Safety Awareness course explains your responsibilities for preventing and responding to fires in the workplace. It teaches you how fires start, how to implement prevention measures to reduce the risk of fire and how to respond correctly and safely if a fire emergency occurs. It also introduces the duties of your workplace’s fire warden and responsible persons.

If you are in charge of fire risk assessments and overseeing evacuation procedures, such as a fire warden, you will need to receive a higher level of training than this course provides, as well as practical training in using firefighting equipment.

Frequently asked questions

Does this course comply with fire safety regulations?

Yes, this training course will help your business comply with this legal requirement to provide staff with training.

In the UK, duties are imposed on responsible people in businesses by the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 in England and Wales, the Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006, and the Fire Safety Regulations (Northern Ireland). All employers, owners, landlords, or occupiers of business or non-domestic premises are known as the ‘responsible person’.

Regulation 21 of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 states that the responsible person in a workplace ‘must ensure that [their] employees are provided with adequate safety training (a) at the time when they are first employed; and (b) on their being exposed to new or increased risks.’

Can this training course help me apply for SSIP accreditations like CHAS and SMAS?

Yes, our Fire Safety Awareness course can act as evidence of industry-related training for accreditation applications, such as CHAS. It covers the requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which will help you understand how to fulfil the legal duties they set out. Knowledge of these topics form part of the training requirements set out by accreditation assessment bodies, so you must be able to demonstrate evidence of compliance in order for your application to be successful. Our course will contribute to the evidence you must provide during your application, to show that you have received the relevant training.

Please note that it will be down to each individual accreditation body to decide if our courses are sufficient for the training requirements of your specific business. This evidence only forms one part of your overall application process. It is up to you to prove you are fulfilling your legal duties and to supply sufficient evidence for everything the accrediting body requires in order for your application to be successful.
